If you know Half Moon Bay, California, chances are you know the name Pastorino. Pastorino Farm is a 60 year old, family-run nursery that sits on a whopping 18 acres of land in the famous coastal town.
Stan Pastorino, a third-generation Pastorino farmer, runs the operation alongside his wife, Patty. At first built as a destination to buy fresh cut roses, the business has expanded to include organic produce (fun fact: Pastorino Farm is the only certified organic grower in the Half Moon Bay region) and rose plants for sale, a home and garden store, and rose maintenance services.
I had the opportunity to speak with Patty Pastorino and her mother Nancy Sausser about the challenges of local farming today and the success of her business, and here-s what they had to say:
